The purpose of this project is to enhance support available to first year and transfer students through Smart Peer Success Coaching (PSC) stations. ~1000 students participate in 1:1 coaching sessions every fall, and where they receive support with the first semester transition. The majority of these meetings take place in person, with a growing number of students expressing interest in virtual meetings. This project would create stations for Peer Success Coaches to meet with students virtually, with dual monitors, headsets, and other assistive technologies to provide the best student experience possible. These stations would also enhance in person meetings by providing students with peer-to-peer guidance navigating platforms like Brightspace, Navigate 360, and digital tools that support personal planning. This project also seeks to support community-building and goal-setting by utilizing a Smart Board where students can share their goals for the semester and participate in digital communities where they can receive support and encouragement.
This project will be managed by the Peer Success Coach Program and utilized by Peer Success Coaches and their assigned students in the College’s first year and transfer seminars, as well as students who opt-in for support outside of seminars.
This technology will be located the Peer Success Coaching office in L2.75NB, where a full-time staff member will supervise use of technology.
This project will benefit thousands of students every year. Directly, students will be able to utilize Smart Coaching Stations for their own planning with Peer Success Coaches. They will also be able to participate in a College-wide digital goal-setting efforts to promote a community of growth and resilience. Indirectly, students will benefit from the support of Peer Success Coaches who are fully equipped to host smooth coaching sessions both virtually and in person.
Regular maintenance will provided by program administrators in partnership with the DoIT Technology HelpDesk.
Supervision would be provided by 2 full-time staff members.
This project directly aligns with the College’s 2025 Strategic Plan, specifically the Goals and objective to educate and support undergraduate students at every step of their journey, as well as the goals to embody and promote equity and inclusion. Smart Coaching Stations will make coaching sessions more accessible for students, and they will promote students’ meaningful learning and engagement with classes and resources on campus.
