This proposal represents a reapplication to sustain funding for Labster licenses for BIO 213 Microbiology with Laboratory, following a successful implementation during the previous funding year. BIO 213 is a major elective for Cell and Molecular Biology, Forensic Science, Toxicology majors, and the Biology minor. I have taught the lab component of this course since its inception in 2016 and have continuously revised the curriculum to meet student needs and evolving disciplinary standards. During the previous award period, Student Technology Fee funding enabled all enrolled students to access Labster, an immersive virtual laboratory platform fully integrated into Brightspace. The project met all stated goals, demonstrating clear instructional value, measurable student engagement, improved academic performance, and direct financial relief for students. Based on these outcomes, I am requesting continued support to maintain this proven hybrid instructional model. Labster allows students to practice laboratory techniques virtually before performing them in person, increasing preparedness, confidence, and conceptual understanding. It also enables coverage of advanced topics in molecular microbiology, immunology, and biotechnology that are not feasible in traditional labs due to time and equipment constraints. Each year, up to 48 students enroll in BIO 212. Without funding, students would incur an additional $99 license fee beyond required lab fees. This reapplication has the full support of the Department of Sciences, chaired by Dr. Jennifer Rosati, and the BIO 212 Course Coordinator, Dr. Jason Rauceo.
