Over the years, the John Jay College student technology fee has helped to keep the student wireless system up to the demands of our student community. Even so, the demand is increasing, and the supporting devices are operating near capacity. To maintain and improve wireless access, we request money for a full upgrade of the core of our wireless system, comprising 10 Cisco Wireless Access Point 9178, 2 Cisco Wireless Controllers CW9800H1, and a Cisco Catalyst 9404R switch.
These wireless access points will be placed in the library, West Port Cafeteria, student lounges, and other predetermined areas in the new building based on high concentration of use. Students use these areas to complete assignments, perform research, etc.
These wireless access points will be placed in the library, West Port Cafeteria, and the student lounges on the first and second floors of North Hall.
Students find the convenience of accessing John Jay’s academic resources anywhere on campus invaluable. Wireless allows students to access the library database, CUNY Learning Management Systems (Bright Space/Blackboard), other John Jay and CUNY applications, and general Internet access.
The wireless access points come with a three-year warranty. DoIT network team will take care of the devices.
