Digital Creation Lab Equipment Request
The Digital Innovation and Creation lab advances digital literacies and technological proficiencies of John Jay students, staff, and faculty and supports effective integration of technologies into teaching and learning experiences. The lab will offer class-based workshops, co-curricular supports and small group sessions to increase students’ facility with using varied software and hardware, Large Language Models, and Learning Management Systems and platforms to meet degree program learning objectives and develop the technological proficiencies required in the workplace. : In collaboration with academic departments, the Teaching and Learning Center, and the offices of the Dean of Academic Programs, the lab supports the faculty and staff in incorporating effective active, student-centered digital pedagogies in existing and new curriculum. The lab includes a classroom (fits up to 28 students), three recording rooms (fits up to 4 students each), and one office space; as well as counter table and seating by the window for use by students and staff. The classroom environment is modular for use as a lecture room or a production space for video shoots, podcasting, performances, audio recordings, and other projects. The three recording studios which have soundproof walls with pads to be able to privately record audio and videos, as well as a space to edit digital work, without any distractions from outside. Lab Programming will include: Workshops & Training for students, faculty, and staff, One-on-One Support for Digication & Content Creation Tools, Class visits, and Drop in Lab Use for faculty, staff and students. This proposal is an equipment request to fully outfit the lab so it can achieve its mission.
