The Office of Accessibility Services (OAS) is requesting the following resources to better serve students with disabilities at John Jay College.
Dell Latitude 3450 - Laptop computers and tablet devices are beneficial for students with learning disabilities because they are portable and lightweight. For students with handwriting difficulties, being able to take notes on a laptop can improve the quantity and quality of the notes. Furthermore, our office is starting to see an increase in the number of students who are requesting remote access to their in-person lectures as a result of their temporary or permanent disability. By having these laptop computers, our office will be able to provide professors laptops to conduct a virtual session allowing the student to attend the lecture remotely and participate in class activities.

The Office of Accessibility Services will be able to better serve its population of students by providing resources necessary for optimal learning which will encourage student success. These new devices allow the department to stay abreast of the newest technologies in the field for students with disabilities. The Coordinator of Assistive Technology would enhance the services given to our students who use adaptive equipment for their accommodations.
All of the devices will be placed in the clean and safe place. All of the devices will be checked and kept safe by Assistive Technology Coordinator in Accessibility Resource Lab and Testing L66.10

Goal 1: Educate and Support undergraduate and graduate students at every step of their John Jay Journey. Goal 3: Embody and promote our values of equity, diversity, and inclusion. This proposal relates to the first goal in the 2025 strategic plan as the assistive technology proposed in this proposal are all technology that will be used by our office or the student themselves to assist their academic journey. By being able to provide professors with the tools to setup a virtual session, students who are unable to travel to campus due to their disability will be able to attend lecture in real time and participate in class discussions. This will prevent students from feeling excluded from the class and allows them to form connections with their peers while remote.
