The library is seeking funding to purchase SSL certificates for all of its web services. These services include the main library website, the digital collection website, the proxy server, and others. Without this funding, the library website, EZproxy service, and digital collection website will operate without any security measures. This lack of encryption would put students and faculty at risk of having their sensitive information exposed every time they use these services.
All library users—students, faculty, staff, and visiting scholars—will benefit from this upgrade.
The SSL certificates will be installed on the library’s web servers.
The SSL certificates are essential for securing our web services. They encrypt the data transmitted through the library’s websites, which are frequently accessed by students and faculty. Without encryption, sensitive information would be vulnerable to hackers, putting users at risk.
The certificates will be maintained by the IT Academic Applications Director.
The IT Academic Applications Director will also oversee the supervision of these certificates.
The SSL certificates align with the primary objective of the Second Goal: “Establish the infrastructure needed to support high-quality research, scholarship, and creative work.” To achieve this goal, ensuring the security of our heavily used web services is no longer optional—it is a necessity.
