The library is seeking funds to purchase extended support for security patches on our five most critical Linux servers. This will insure that the Linux servers will continue to receive critical security updates. The extension will be for two additional years so that the systems used by our students and faculty are properly protected against cyber attacks.
All John Jay students, faculty, staff, and researchers.
They will continue to physically reside in the DoIT datacenter.
The library would be able to maintain many of our critical online services, as well as many of our onsite, in-library services. Students save a tremendous amount of time because they are able to access research material without having to travel to the campus. None of this would be possible without up-to-date and secured system.
The Library IT Academic Applications Director will continue to maintain the servers. This include, patching, upgrading, periodic checks, and actively monitoring.
The Library IT Academic Applications Director will continue to be responsible for the servers.
Everything the Library does supports the Master Plan’s First Goal: Student Success, and the primary Objective within that goal: “Guide and support students as they master foundational intellectual skills, discover and construct knowledge for themselves.” This maintenance will also specifically support the primary Objective of the Second Goal-- “Establish the infrastructure needed to support high quality research, scholarship and creative work.”
