Project Overview

Technology Fee Proposal

The Office of Accessibility Services (OAS) is requesting the following resources to better serve students with disabilities at John Jay College. • Symphony Ink Refills, 5-pack – As our college continues to move courses to in-person lecture, the number of students who require a Livescribe 3 smartpen for note taking purposes also increase. For this reason we would like to get 3 Symphony Ink Refill 5-pack. This will allow us to accommodate the students who use the smartpen better as they no longer have to worry about the smartpen running out of ink in the middle of a lecture. It will also reduce the need to order more Livescribe 3 smartpens as each smartpen would be reusable for future semesters. • 3-Subject notebooks for Livescribe 3 Smartpens – As more students need Livescribe smartpens to aid their educational journey, the accompanying livescribe notebook supplies have been worn down significantly. For that reason, we would like to get 15 3-subject notebooks for Livescribe 3 smartpens. This will allow students to store around three subjects worth of notes in one notebook and will no longer require the student to drop by our office every time they fill out the notebook. • Irie BrailleTrac 120 – As our office takes care of students who are in need of accommodations, there are times when we receive students who are hard of seeing. This device allows our office to print posters, flyers, exams, and instructions in Braille allowing these students to access resources provided by our office. For this reason, our office would like to get an Irie BrailleTrac 120 and its accompanying Duxbury for Windows Braille Translation software. In light of recent lawsuits we had due to our inability to accommodate hard of seeing students, having access to Irie BrailleTrac 120 is of upmost importance to serve hard of seeing students at John Jay. • AccessiBe software subscription – As the number of students our office serve increases, we need to make sure that students who have visual or hearing impairment are able to access the resources we are providing them. AccessiBe software analysis our website to make sure it is compliant with ADA and also assists us in making our website more accessible to our students with its automated transcription and screen reading function. For this reason, we would like to get 3 years of standard subscription to this service. This software will allow students to navigate our website and access resources provided with more ease than before.
