Project Overview
MSRC Calculators & Batteries Request for MSRC Loan
The Math & Science Resource Center (MSRC) serves as an Academic Support and Resource center for John Jay College undergraduate students enrolled in Math, Science, and Computer Science courses. Some of the resources the MSRC offers to students include Tutoring, content-based workshops, study groups, exam reviews, and a resource library. For our resource library we loan textbooks to students when in our office and calculators for in-classroom assistance. The calculator loan program is free of charge to students, and students can loan out a Graphing or scientific calculators when students provide their John Jay ID and contact information. MSRC Calculators are loaned out to students for the day (MSRC business day). We permit any John Jay student to borrow a calculator for the day based on what we have available for the day. As of Fall 2023, the MSRC had 5 Graphing Calculators and 10 Scientific calculators. With these calculators we were able to serve 471 students for the term. We are hoping to expand upon the number of calculators we have within our loan program to support more students in their courses when in need of a calculator but unable to afford the purchase of a calculator. We want to ensure students have access to the tools/material needed to achieve equitable success in their courses. Many STEM-related courses recommend students utilize calculators; therefore, we want to make sure we can provide that tool when students are unable to purchase or acquire a calculator themselves. We are hoping to request 20 Graphing calculators, 20 Scientific, and batteries to power each calculator for current and future use.
